”For two years, I followed and documented what has come to be known as the world’s most notorious fight club. During that time, I saw and experienced many things, both good and bad. Some of which left quite a mark, and there were times when I felt like shit, to be honest.

After documenting many of these events, I told myself not to return. But there was something undeniably real about the nature of this fight club that pulled me back in every time. In a strange double life, I kept going to these events without my friends or family knowing. My captivation did not only come from excitement, but in a way, I felt free being at these events and in the company of the people there. These events gave me something I needed. It was like a new part of me speaking, and I was listening carefully, and I think a lot of people felt the same because many kept coming back.

This raised a lot of questions about the whole phenomenon, the people there, and maybe, more importantly, about myself. I felt torn between a strong moral compass and my infatuation with this lifestyle. There were many things that I did not understand or agree with, but at the same time, I couldn’t deny the appeal of this newfound place. I battled myself a lot, but came to the conclusion that there must be more to this story than just the violence.”

FAQs

Why make a documentary about KOTS?

We think there is much to be gained from studying these kinds of outgrowths from society. Is violence a part of human nature, and where is its place, if any, in modern society? Is there anything we can learn from using a magnifying glass on those who operate outside of the law, or is it simply the temptations of the primal?

When is the documentary coming out?

Late 2024 (we hope). The doc is still in production. Due to its controversial nature, we are exploring an independent release so that nothing has to be censored or controlled.

Is this documentary affiliated with or financed by the organization KOTS?

No. This documentary is independent. We have been granted exclusive access to be allowed to bring cameras into their events, but all funding comes from independent investors.

What can we expect?

Expect rawness, for good and bad. This is not a scientific thesis about why some people choose an unconventional route in life. This is an attempt to understand the other side and the consequences of it, even if it is uncomfortable. We believe that a genuine conversation with the misfits of society, might lead to a deeper understanding of them, and ultimately ourselves.

How do we know that KOTS does not intervene in the content for self-interest?

We cooperate with them to gain access to events and fighters, and to obtain material we have not filmed ourselves. We have contracted creative freedom without intervention, even if there should be a conflict of interest. They have made it clear that they are not afraid of the truth coming out, whatever that may be.

WHAT IS KOTS?

King of the Streets is an illegal European-based fight club known for its no-rules policy. It was founded in 2013 in Sweden by an anonymous Swedish group called the Hype Crew. Rumor says that it started as a way of settling conflicts, but few fully know how or who runs it. Over the years, KOTS has amassed a huge controversial following on social media and has been mentioned in countless articles and news reports, often negatively. They still maintain their anonymity and underground status.
